Make Procrastination Work For You

By: South Austin Chiro

Procrastination comes naturally, why not use it to your advantage! Many people have heard that it takes 21 days to make a habit. In reality, that varies a bit but one thing is certain, habits require repetition. This applies to both making good habits and breaking less desirable ones.

If you have habits that you struggle to change but want to, apply some procrastination!

Turn "I want to smoke now" or "I want dessert now" into, "I'll get dessert in 20 minutes" or "I'll smoke in a little while." Then repeat. As much as procrastination can stop a great plan in it's tracks, it can derail a bad habit as well.

One thing you should not procrastinate is your health. A multitude of research shows that the longer you wait, the more you will suffer and the longer it can take to get back to normal. If you want to learn more or have concerns about your health, feel free to reach out!

Back To School - Backpacks!

As our social media feeds show, school is back! To minimize strain from wearing a backpack, observe the following guidelines:

  • Backpacks should never weigh more than 10-15% of body weight. Wheeled backpacks can be helpful when the required load is above this thresholds
  • Shoulder straps should be padded, appropriately adjusted, and worn over both shoulders to evenly distribute weight.
  • Purchase a backpack with an internal frame to distribute the load.
  • Show children how to properly pack their backpacks. Heavier items, like books, should go closest to the body. Make use of the multiple compartments to distribute the weight too.
  • Use both shoulder straps and make sure they are tightened so the load is snug to the body and not hanging more than a couple of inches below the waist.
  • Have children practice bending using both knees rather than at the waist when wearing or lifting heavy backpacks.
